At Agatsu Montreal, our philosophy towards fitness is grounded in two elements, community, and a mastery mindset.
Humans are social beings and in this modern age, we have lost our connection to our neighbours and to the organizations and groups that held us together. We therefore look to the gym to bring us together once more to celebrate our love for movement and exercise. This helps to provide motivation, encouragement and a sense of belonging. We emphasize our community through our classes, workshops, and fun community events.
The name Agatsu is derived from the Japanese saying Masakatsu Agatsu, meaning true victory is self-victory. We approach fitness and health with this ideal in mind, seeking to use physical exercise and movement as a means to challenge and develop the mind, body, and spirit. We do not mindlessly go through our workouts, but instead seek to put our effort and energy to the task, seeking to better our technique and give our best every time we are in the gym. It is through the continual striving for a limitless, unattainable perfection; through the hard work, sweat and physical effort that we make ourselves mentally stronger, more physically capable, more emotionally balanced and our spirit stronger and more determined. Exercise thus becomes a way to strengthen all aspects of our being and become the best people we can become in all aspects of life.
